Post To Float, or not to Float?

I was explaining to my friend, Sharon, about the old 'if the egg floats' rule, but now I can't remember for sure which is which. If the egg floats it is bad --- or if the egg sinks????? I really do think that the floaters are bad --- sulfur dioxide gas?

But.....?

I've got one of each in the fridge right now, but I am not eating them both to see which one makes me sick.

I don't know the addage but when I put eggs in a pot of water to hard boil them, they go right to the bottom.

Thumbs up

If it floats it's bad. Eggs have an air space that gets larger as the egg gets older as the insides start to dry out.

For more references to this, look here.

Love the explanation. Gonna have to try the bread experiment. Thanks so much. I get such quick answers on cheftalk! Perhaps I should try searching for myself...but you guys know so much. Thanks also Kyle, that's what I thought, but when I had one of each I just couldn't decide.
