A recent major medical study recently debunked the myths that Vit C, D and E (as antioxidants) actually helped you live longer. In fact, there was some evidence that they actually resulted in shorter lives. I'll try to find the link and make it available. Don't get me wrong here, I'm bummed, as I would have liked to think that all that anti-oxidant stuff was good for me. Another study also seemed to show that garlic doesn't do much for you either. That one is especially hard for me to swallow (no pun intended). Whenever I felt something coming on, we'd make something with mass quantities of garlic in it, and feel better. Might be the witch doctor effect. But then, "they" used to say margarine was much better for you than butter. And the list goes on and on and on and on... doc

I think we should eat good food, and forget about the fads that come in and out. remember when everyone was eating margarine because they thought butter was bad for them? I have an old cookbook that said fruit is wholesome but not nutritious. Another talks about the four vitamins we need. Chocolate used to be bad, now it's good. Tea was bad, then only green tea was good, but black tea still bad, now all tea is the same and good, and who knows what they'll come up with tomorrow. I keep drinking my many cups of dark black tea with milk and sugar, oblivious to all these fads, it tastes good and who cares. We keep discovering things about food, but really, what they discover today might be outdated next year, and then in two years they may return to what they discovered yesterday and then who knows, it will reverse again. I think we should eat lots of flavors, lots of colors, few constructed industrial products if we can help it and mainly enjoy our food, learn to taste it, and learn what feels good. Good food makes you happy, and that certainly is good for you!

I'm not a scientist and I don't sell this treatment through sleazy cable channel ads or websites, but this seems to make me feel better when I have a fever &/or congestion. I get a large bowl of Chinese hot and sour soup, add a bowl of white rice and a bunch of the sludge from the bottom of the chili/oil jar. I lean over the bowl of extra hot (temperature and spice) soup and eat away. The steam and the capsaicin help loosen my sinuses (a large quantity of tissues is always a good idea), the fluid helps keep my hydrated and it tastes so good, it provides the nutrition that I otherwise may not get as other food usually doesn't taste all that good to me when I'm ill. YMMV. ![]()
