Question

I think it would depend what you're after. You could definitely use ground peanuts with coconut milk, ginger, star anise, etc... and you would have an ice cream sundae that was very Asian-ish... Or do you just want a loose peanut butter? You could make a caramel-peanut sauce...as you would a typical caramel sauce... what are you after?

Question

The sauce that I'm after has a medium
body to it,not thin and runny nor thick
and firm.Yet it's pour able. There is a
Restaurant along the eastern US that has this sauce and they pour it over ice cream
in a Sunday. And it soooo good, that I want to duplicate it because I'm not close to that
restaurant any longer.And I want a Sunday
before I die.Oh I forgot to mention that I'm handicapped and on oxygen.Thank you for all yor help.Tish

Wink

Have you thought about calling or writing that restaurant? I could make suggestions, but they'd probably just give you the recipe. Also, Bon apetit magazine has a column where they print recipe requests from their readers.

I'd love to know the recipe if you get it!

Alpha's recipe looks about right. Make sure it's a very creamy peanut butter. Some of the natural brands like Smuckers say 'creamy' but are actually a little on the grainy side. You'll want a perfectly smooth peanut butter like jif or peter pan.

You might want to check the ice cream topping section of your local supermarket. They probably have something very similar to Friendly's PB sauce.

tish, here's a good one - you might have to cut it down a tad if it's for home use... It makes about 2 qts.

Peanut Butter Sauce

12 ounces granulated sugar
1 1/3 cups light corn syrup
3/4 cup hot water
6 ounces margarine
3 ounces miniature marshmallows
12 ounces evaporated milk
8 ounces peanut butter

Combine sugar, syrup, and water. Cook to 228°F and turn off heat or remove from burner.
Add margarine and marshmallows. Stir until melted. Cool. Place in mixer bowl.
Add milk and peanut butter. Beat until well blended. Refrigerate.

NOTES : Serve over ice cream.

Default Friendly's Peanut Butter Sauce

I have been looking for the Friendly's peanut butter sauce for years. I finally found a peanut butter sauce at Superior Nut Company. It is sooooo good and tastes very much like Friendly's peanut butter sauce. You can find Superior Nut Company online.
