Wink Dimensions vs. Subtance

This may sound very weird but me and my friends are having a debate about muffins and cupcakes The muffin lovers are saying that muffins have more substance and therefore are more filling than cupcakes. Cupcakes lovers make a point that cupckakes have dimensions, the texture of the frosting compliments the texture of the cake. And the sprinkles on top adds yet another dimension that muffins lack. So, what do you guys think? Whats better muffins or cupcakes?

Interesting idea.

But it's not my style to say one is better than the other. They're just different, and there are times when only one will do.

If by "dimensions" your friends mean differences in texture, flavor, etc. in one specimen, then I'd argue that muffins have multiple dimensions, too: crumbly dough, soft or chewy bits of fruit, crunchy nuts -- and don't let's forget the crunch of oats or a sugar or streusel topping. So muffins share those "dimensions" with cupcakes.

And let's not forget muffin tops, when it comes to dimensions.

But I agree with Suzanne; to say one or the other is "better" is something you argue about after too many beers. It's just not something I see as a serious culinary discussion.

The only reason I could honestly say muffins and cupcakes are different is the fact that they have two different methods of being made.

*shrug* They're both tasty...so why argue over the difference.

Muffins rule. Cupcakes are too prissy And who says you can't ice a muffin?? Life is too short for fussing with cupcakes.....

Muffins go from minis, standard, large, bakery, jumbo or texas...cupcakes can be mini but they never go larger than a "standard"

In my book, a jumbo cupcake would be a miniature cake for sharing, whereas standard cupcakes are a single serve....jumbo muffins are a guilty delight for one!
