Default I saw a big bag of duram wheat with wheat bran, can that be used for pasta?

I saw a big bag of duram wheat with wheat bran, can that be used for pasta?

It had arab writing on the bag and showed pictures of bread, can that be used to make pasta?

What exactly does the wheat bran do?

Durum wheat is a particularly hard wheat that as you obviously know is used for making pasta. It is extremely difficult to work by hand and I've heard it said that it can only make pasta successfully when used in commercial pasta making machines. (I would argue with that though.)

The bran is the outer coating of the wheat berry which, along with the wheat germ is removed prior to grinding to make white flour. Leaving the bran on makes it more akin to whole wheat.

The caveat stated above notwithstanding, yes it can be used to make pasta.

The bran adds a healthy dose of dietary fiber.

Ah, so you wouldn't recommend using the for trying to make pasta by hand for the first time.

No. I'd stick with APF.
