portabellos and what? as a vegetarian entree, as a salad, or app....as a side for a meat?
some that automatically seem to work.....
dried figs
cherries
currants
not sure why apricots are making me scowl....that mental combo is not pleasing for some unknown (too early and too fuzzy for words that match) reason.

Cranberries; apricots, they don't make me scowl when considering with portabellos; and maybe dried apples, if you can find a dried variety that is not overly sweet.

I like cranberries, apricots and pinenuts with lots of herbs, mushroom and onion in bread stuffings.

I agree. I don't think of them as a stuffing. Have done stuffed though. I'm doing a roasting hen right now stuffed with dried apricots, lemons, onion, celery, garlic and thyme with butter and white wine. Forgot to put my ginger in it...dam. Will do an apricot and pecan glaze on it at the end. Maybe a touch of soy for salt but the verdicts still out on that right now.l

Meaning you would use a different shroom, or no shrooms at all?

Sun dried tomatoes
Dried pineapple
Prunes
Preserved lemons (ok not technically a dried fruit...just a suggestion)

I can't put the taste of apricot with a mushroom either, just doesn't seem to go.
