Default Saltwater taffy too thick

I've been trying to make saltwater taffy - my biggest weakness! Here's my recipe:

2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup light corn syrup
2 teaspoons glycerin
3/4 cup water
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 to 1 teaspoon flavoring
3 drops food coloring

Mix first 7 ingredients and heat stirring on medium heat until boiling. Stop stirring and continue cooking until mixture reaches 250 degrees. Quickly add color and flavoring, cool on cookie sheet until cool enough to handle. Pull 15 minutes or more, form, cut, wrap.

However my taffy always turns out the consistency of Now 'N' Laters - very very tough to chew, and not at all light and fluffy. Please help me tweak my recipe to make my taffy lighter!

I actually saw taffy being made on Paula Deans show last night. If it's too tough you aren't pulling enough. The more you pull the whiter it will become. They added colouring then flavouring after.
Hope this helps!

Yeah I know. I do pull it a lot. It starts a real, primary color and ends up very very pastel, shiny, and smooth.
