Default Whole Foods vs Wild Oats

Wild Oats has been THE store in my area for organic meats and other similar food specialties. They've been purchased by Whole Foods. The preliminary reports I've seen are that Whole Foods costs more and is somewhat less picky on quality, but those could be slanted. Wild Oats is going away and the stores will become Whole Foods--except for one WF is closing.

What do you all think of Whole Foods.

Phil

I like Whole Foods, but they are expensive. I go to a local farmers-type market that gets overage or some such from Whole Foods. The pomegranates I got the other day at the little market were 50 cents each. Ones that looked to be from the same batch were at Whole Foods for $2.99 each.

Whole Foods will not carry foods with hydrogenated oils. Wild Oats did.

Whole Foods has brilliant marketing.

Could you elaborate? I've never seen any Whole Foods marketing, so I'd like to know what they're up to.

I like Whole Paycheck better than Wild Oats, I guess because my husband used to work for Henry's (Wild Oats) in the produce department and got some pretty crappy produce sometimes. I've been disappointed the last few times I have gone. However, I go to Whole Foods for groceries and bulk, and the produce stores for produce. There is one that just opened up near me, and they have fresh lychees, about 7 varieties of plums, jujubees (sp), and I even had my first fresh pistachio there. (Very good, btw.)

Anyway. Whole Paycheck all the way!

Harpua, for fresh lychees, plums and jujubes, we have the pleasure of an Asian market... huge one with an aisle for each country and even one thrown in for the Netherlands. Again, I think that Whole Foods is getting from the same distributor but charges a higher price.

Whole Paycheck.
