Default Can I Substitute Steel Cut Oats for Rolled Oats?

Hello All,
I am making a turkey meatloaf for my firefighter hubby - he comes home tonight after being gone since Friday.
The recipe calls for rolled oats, I forgot to pick any up but do have steel cut oats. I'm guessing they won't substitute well but thought I'd ask.

I just found this site.... lots of reading to do.
Thank you for any help
Tara

I'm sure they won't - totally different texture and cooking times.

Yea, that's what I thought too. I decided to use Panko and crumbled Triscuits (use what you have!!). Fortunately, by the time he gets home he'll be good and hungry so it won't have to be perfect. Who knows, it looked pretty good going into the slow cooker!
Thanks for the reply Shel

Was he working on the So Cal fires this weekend? Bless him! Although I just moved up here to Washington a few months ago, I spent my first 56 years in L.A. and that's got to be worse than any fire I can remember. Those Santa Anas can be pretty evil during a fire. Please thank him for me and all the current and former Californians. I'm sure he'll LOVE your meatloaf.

Phoebe, no, thankfully he wasn't sent down for those fires. He spent almost 2 months on the one here in July/Aug ~ enough for a while! I think the meatloaf will be good. I had extra so I made two small loaves and did them on the grill
You're right about the firefighters - they are an amazing bunch who deserve all the acolades they get and then some!
