Default Help me figure out how to make two things at once!

I am having a dinner for my family and friends this weekend. (I am newly married and have limited experience making real dinners!) I had a couple of sides delegated to others to lessen the stress, but one family is now unable to attend and I was wondering if it's possible that I could make a green bean casserole AND a honey-glazed ham before 5:00. Both require an oven and a ham takes hours. What do I do??

Thanks for all your input!

Not a problem (as long as there's room in the oven). Just put the green bean casserole in so it's done at the same time. (Or just a little later - the ham probably needs to rest a while) Use an easy recipe with cans of cream of mushroom soup and cans of french fried onions. Canned green beans are OK, but use a premium brand. Normally this is cooked at 325, or so. (The ham won't care if you change the temp. for the last 20 min.)

If you are using fresh green beans, be sure to blanch them in boiling water (3 to 5 minutes) ahead of time, then run cold water over them in a collander to cool. You can do this up to an hour ahead, or just while the ham is baking.

Thank you for the help, I guess we'll see how good I am at being a multi-tasker in the kitchen!

Confused buy the ham cooked

there are wonderful spiral cut hams in the grocery stores that you can buy already cooked...all you have to do is glaze it with the little brown sugar packet that's included and warm it up..really easy...another option is if you have a honeybaked ham store in your area, they have a nice selection of yummy hams...where are you? if you are not stateside, don't know if they are overseas, but as i said, the ones in the grocery stores are just as good...usually you will find them gold or purple foil wrapped in the meat dept.
