Default What comes to Mind when you think of NY?

When you think of New York what Foods do you think of? Especially soups?

I feel that NY is too diverse to really have jsut 1 thing that says "This is NY"

When I think about NY, it is more the diversity of food rather than any one individual item.

If I had to choose one food that says NY, it would be street vendor hot dogs!

I agree with you to a certain extent, but when I think of New York City and food, two items immediately jump to mind-take-out cold sesame noodles and bialys. They just seem so particular to the city as to be almost representative of the place. You do find them elsewhere, but they seem like sad imitations of the ones available in the Big Apple.

Default nyc and soups

Well manhatten clam chowder comes to mind, but i'm not a big fan of this as i was born in Mass., grew up in New Hampsha, and went to college in Bah Hahba, Maine. New England Clam chowda is my choice.
Use to spend xmas breaks in mahatten and use to love the little lebanese falafel joints crammed in a space about ten feet wide and 20 feet long.

For me...it is a good cut of steak. Aside from maybe 1 or 2 places in NJ (only ONE i can think of is named Manhattan steak house and is right up there with the best of them, if not on top, by my many a steak eating experiences)....I have to travel to NYC to get something worth telling mom about.

Although, I've only really eaten at the "popular" steakhouses....I think there is a pretty good reason they are popular (albeit a little cliche)

Aw come on~! NY=Pastrami with hot pepper cheese sandwiches piled 3/4' high on great rolls! (Great coleslaw and great potato salad too!) BTW: Is the 400 still up on the corner from the Holiday Inn? Best pastrami I ever had in NY!

Bagels and bagels and more bagels and hot coffee....caught the red-eye in from L.A. once and this was my first and most lasting impression of NY , foodwise. Bagels smothered in cream cheese. Coffee hot and sweet....only other food memory of NY is lasagne at 4am after listening to jazz at Manny's Car Wash - great night
