Default Kid Cooks!

My new subject on my foodie radio show is going to deal with kid cooks. In other words, I am looking for input about encouraging kids to cook. I.E. easy but fascinating recipes...cookbooks that kids can call their own...experiences, etc. I know that I have some kids in my audience and I want to include them! Your suggs?

thanx

What age group are you looking at, if I may inquire? The reason I ask is this: If you know the target audience may be young-ish, then you could do some fun stuff to pique their interest, like homemade play dough. If they are a tad older, you could get into homemade cereal/breakfast bars, granola, chocolate covered anything, non-alcoholic sangria, etc. You could even tap into themes, like hosting a luau dinner for the family and mentioning skewered pineapple grilled, an apple-butter roasted pork loin, some fun coconut fritters or coconut shrimp, etc.

Pita mini pizzas--Greek-style pita bread for a crust, and for the rest they can use a lot of imagination It's hard to make them come out anything but good.

Default Kid Cooks

I am in Australia, however my kids love to cook from a US book called 'School Day Lunches' which is a 'Company's Coming-Kitchen Workbook'
Published by Hinkler Books, it has 'Kids Can Help' ideas at the end of each recipe.
My kids also love making things out of packaged puff pastry. Any sort of filling, rolled, filled, twisted, pies. You can use anything from cheese and salmon to spreads to create easy yummy snacks.

Noodle omelettes, muffins, sausage rolls, rocky road, spag carbonara, fruity smoothies, fruit kebabs, meringues, chocolate "fondue" - use marshmallows, fruit cubes for dipping. Icecream & soda "spiders". Shepherd's pie. Tacos, tortillas, burittos etc. Burgers. Potato wedges n spicy soured creme.

I got kids - can you tell? hehehe

Good luck - if it helps 1 kid to cook - you've succeeded.

I'm 15 and love to cook. Let's see if I can help.

A giant cookie cake that can be decorated. Let the kids make their own icing and teach them how to pipe simple stuff.

Pizza is always a good and fun way to go.

Homemade mac-and-cheese.

Try fun "kid foods" that they love.

I'll think of more and get back with you.
