Does anyone have the scoop on Channel One
television which is broadcast in our school systems? Fast food chains and pop companies are running the lives of your kids... When did schools start selling out the childrens' health for technological advances. I don't even have kids, and my BP is rising.
What can we do to stop this in our schools?

You are right to have your blood boil! I have NOTHING good to say about Channel One (I taught for many years). It is totally commercial, and promotes those values in kids- sprinkled in with some current events, etc.

That said, schools are looking for any source of income they can, and that includes 'services' like Channel One and also corporate-sponsored 'bulletin boards' in high schools. The worst is fat contracts with school districts to put soft drink machines in schools. That is probably more insidious from a nutrition standpoint.

As long as school budgets are squeezed by the reluctance of taxing bodies and communities to do right by our next generation, they will be forced to resort to this kind of financial prostitution.
