| I have a question about the salt, marinade, etc., that is made by the company called "Lawry's". Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I was wondering if these seasonings are real, not artificial, and if they are ok for you. I was just wondering because I have a bottle of Lawry's Seasoned Salt, which I rarely use because it tastes way too salty to me. |

| Afra~ read the ingrediant list, if there are words longer than 6 letters it's probably a chemical....definately not natural. |

| Afra, To answer your questions regarding Lawry's and other seasoned salt and all your other questions about different convenience foods: Most pre-packaged, canned or pre-made or convenience foods are going to have preservatives, fillers or additional fats added and not usually be quite as wholesome for you as the fresh product. Sometimes you need to make choices because of budget, freshness or availability -- some general guidelines are: fruits/vegetables in order of freshness and the most intact regarding nutrients would be: 1. fresh 2. frozen 3. canned meats: 1. fresh 2. frozen and convenience foods often are injected with preservatives or a salt solution. Pre-made foods have often had fillers, etc. added (as per fish stick conversation) You can often reduce your costs by getting larger cuts of meats or whole chickens and breaking them down and making your own stock means your stock is preservative and sodium free (except for what you personally add). Read labels -- anything you don't know is most likely an added colour, preservaive. Good Luck! I suggest checking out your local library--there are many books out there that are good sources for info on wholesome, good for you foods.

| Afra, I checked the ingredient list (I have an OLD bottle; used to put it on popcorn). The only weird ingredient is tricalcium phosphate, used to keep the product free-flowing. The first ingredient is salt, followed by sugar, with powdered spices (paprika, turmeric, onion, cornstarch and garlic. At 360 mg. of sodium per 1/4 teaspoon, no wonder it tastes too salty!

| Thanks for your responses, everyone! The reason why I was wondering about "Lawry's" salt is because my mom gave me that bottle of salt; I didn't buy it myself. I was wondering why it was way too salty for me. I almost never really use it at all anyway. |

| Actually, I like Lawrys seasoned salt. I use it to sprinkle on beef roasts to give a nice "crust" on top. I also use Morton "Natures Seasoning". Neither of these products will replace Fleur de Sel or my Hawaian Red clay salt, but they are ok for everyday, around the house, uses. These products taste salty because they are primarily SALT.

| I use Lawry's in Southern Fried Chicken recipe. The one in "In Julia's Kitchen".
