>does anyone remember when you had to open anchovy and sardine cans with a little key?<

Me, me. I well remember them. I also remember needing a key to open a can a coffee. As you turned the key it rolled-up a strip of metal from the side of the can.

Are we getting old, Joey?

They sure do. Just about every supermarket carries them, along with the same sized cans of flat filets in oil.

yeah ky,
i forgot about the coffee cans with the keys..they were wicked to open..i still have scars! anything else you can think of how packaging has changed? for the better or worse...for example, have you ever tried to get open some of those easy-open food items, or just some plastic wrapped item..i always comment"what do old people do?" i always have a pair of scissors handy!

One of the worst things to happen to food packaging---even worse than trying to get those plastic clamshells open---is when the patent ran out on the Pur-Pak containers. You notice how, the past several years, the milk, cream, and similar containers never open properly, and instead of an integral pour spout you wind up with a dribble glass.

Maybe I'm a reactionary, but I still prefer a crown cap to a roll-on cap for drink bottles.

And theres.....well, I used to edit Package Engineering magazine, so if I really get started we'll be here for awhile.
