Default Boy Meets Grilled Vegetables

Yesterday I was gifted with a new charcoal grill. It's just about perfect for the patio in the back yard. Although I've grilled and barbecued for years, using big smokers, Weber kettles, and even a gas grill, I've never grilled vegetables or fruit. What are your favorite vegetables and fruit for grilling, and are there any techniques and tips that you can pass along? Matbe some interesting marinades ... I'd like to get things cookin' next week.

Hi friends, I am a generally healthy 38year-old female with a pretty poor diet due to trying to keep my weight down. I suffer from anemia, but iron pills and vitamins don't seem to be the best way to raise my hemoglobin. I would rather do it by eating a healthy diet. So have anyone any idea of some healthy diet? If so please let me know urgently. Thank you.

Eat plenty of in-season fresh fruit, vegetables, lean meat like turkey and chicken breast, fresh fish, whole grains, low-fat or non-fat dairy, stay away from fatty foods, eat sweets sparingly, eat plenty of fresh salads with home-made low fat dressings (or dressings with higher fat sparingly - or just spronkle the greens with lemon juice.

Go to the web site for the World's Healthiest Foods The World's Healthiest Foods and sign up for their daily recipes. Many are quick and easy to prepare, tasty, and very healthy.

Skip eating out frequently, and when you doeat out, choose your meals carefully. A meal in many restaurants can contain as many as 3,000 calories, loads of salt and fat. Get childs portions, or take half the food home to eat the next day.

Drink lots of good spring or mineral water, pas on the sodas and diet drinks. Stay away from most commercial fruitdrinks. They are often loaded with sugar and sweeteners, and are almost empty calories. Make your own juice whenever possible, but again, eat whole, fresh fruit for the fiber and all the vitamins and minerals.

Write down whatever you eat. You'd be surprised how that may help. See a doctor and get a good physical exam including a complete blood workup.

Exercise - just walk for about 1/2 hour a day every other day. There are no "miracle" diets, or magic pills. Losing weight takes a little work and dedication, and changing old habits.

All pf these things have worked for me, especially the physical exam and blood work.

Good Luck,

shel

oh my gosh Shel, you live in Berkley area and have not grilled fruit, it was the birthplace of CA cooking?
sorry, just had to....

apricots, pineapple, necterines all grill well.....if you go savory just brush or dip into rosemary garlic olive oil.
sweet....I just put oj concentrate or orange zest and brown sugar or booze...
bourbon works with all three.

teriyaki works too

Upon reflection, I grilled tomatoes a couple of times. Used Chris Shlessinger's recipe for chilled, grilled tomato soup. But yeah, mostly I missed the boat on grilling fruit and vegetables.

When grilling the stone fruits, do you grill 'em when they're really ripe, or when they're a little unripe?
