Default Greek chicken?

Hi all,

I'm a pretty new cook, and would like to figure out how to make the Greek Chicken one can get at the local King Gyros restaurant. I called them to ask about the ingredients of the sauce, and they said they just got tubs of "Greek Sauce" from some supplier. Since I'm new, I have no idea what kinds of herbs and spices could be making the chicken taste the way it does, and I also can't tell if recipes I find online are directing to make the chicken I'm actually wanting to make! All I know at the moment is that they grill the chicken and put this sauce on it, then serve with rice and some garlic toast. Any likely guesses of what kind of sauce this is?

Thank you much!

Alec

They probably marinade in oregano, garlic, onions, lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper.

What color is the sauce?

Lots and lots of butter. I know exactly what youre talking about and that chicken is literally drenched in herbs and butter, but it is so delicious.

That may be true in the case of this particular chicken but did you know that Greek savoury cooking hardly uses any butter at all? Olive oil is used predominantly over any other type of fat. I know Greek cooks that even make pastry dough using olive oil instead of butter!

This is no way diminishes my love of butter.

Without having tasted this chicken I will second the opinion that oregano was used in the seasoning. Or it could have been thyme.

I know it is not official "greek" chicken just as taco bell is not official mexican food. It is still pretty darn tasty when the crave hits.

Go to any grease joint that serves up gyros, burgers, and the like and see if they have greek chicken there. I highly recommend it, even though its not authentic Greek cusine.
