Post Salt--Health Issue?

I have read in a couple of medical articles that ingesting salt is not that much of a problem in the human diet-except for those who have severe blood pressure problems. The problem lies, however, in the foods that are associated with high salt intake in America-tortilla and potato chips, snacks and the like that are high in simple carb calories and fat. Now I cannot lay may hands on these two articles (they circulated through the office about a year and a half ago). Does anyone know more about it or can you direct me to a website?

Thanks Crudeau. The nutrition farm and DASH articles are the ones I was looking for. Seems like the jury is still out on this one. In the meantime, I think I'll still put a pinch of salt in my oatmeal.

Yawn

You are most welcome. As for me, I use some salt, but don't overdo it. There is enough hidden salt in a lot of the stuff that we eat that you don't need to add too much to your diet. In fact, the last time I tried a Campbell's soup, it was too darn salty for me to eat. I think the key is to not eat very much of processed foods.

I still like a little salt on my eggs and my hot cereal.

I think the salt thing is like most others...anything in moderation is ok.

Hmmm. My guess is that the average person doesn't realize his/her actual sodium intake.
Once the taste cells adapt, salt is no longer saltly. I tend to test people's knowledge of which foods "taste" salty or not; most think ketsup is sweet, not saltly.
So, my concern is that given the go-ahead to consume sodium, the next generation will not have the truth at hand. If society curbs the blood pressure problems of today, in turn helping the CAD epidemic and others, who will fund the American Medical Association?
Be aware. Who is writing the studies, and backing them? Just a thought.
