| | My mother is about 800 miles from me so I won't be cooking for her.
Hopefully, I won't have to cook anything and Les and the kids will take care of it all.
Don't get me wrong, I love to cook but cooking almost 24/7, I'd like a break. Since Christmas, I've only had 5 days off from cooking. lol |

| | Not quite sure yet for the main meal.
I have some smoked oysters for appetizers, along with some smoked Gouda and a French herb and cheese wheel.
For the salad, I'm doing a marinated artichoke and heart of palm salad with orange marmalade dressing.
For dinner, I have a bag of frozen scallops and a bag of shrimp. What do you guys propose?

| | I made Espagnole Sauce (4 qts). Then I added 4 qts of veal stock made last weekend, and reduced it down to Demi-Glace.
Cut up a whole Natureland beef tenderloin, dusted a couple filet mignon's with my secret spice mix, fried 'em in a very very hot cast iron skillet, stuck them in the oven at 450 until medium rare.
Took 'em out to rest, added some butter to the skillet, shallots and chopped portabellas. Deglazed with Dry Sack spanish white wine. Added some of the freshly made demi-glace.
Made mashed potatoes, and steamed some brussel sprouts which I then made a lemon-butter sauce with parmesan cheese and freshly grated nutmeg.
Preceded all by making a greek salad, with Feta, red onion and red wine vinegrette using EVOO and a few flakes of Oregano, S&P.

| | I didn't have to cook anything for Mother's Day. Our youngest daughter, who is leaving home in a few weeks, prepared a nice steak dinner with baked potatos and a vegetable medley seasoned with olive oil and herbs. |

| | Les and the kids took me out for dinner Saturday night. I got to have sushi for the first time. I've had the California rolls in the past but never raw tuna, salmon, etc. YUM! I loved it!
Yesterday, the kids cooked bacon, eggs, toast, and oatmeal for my breakfast. For dinner, I made Carribean Jerk chicken kabobs with onions, peppers, and cherry tomatoes, baked potatoes, fresh corn on the cob, and a cake. I don't know the name of the cake but it was a simple recipe my mom gave me on the phone yesterday and was surprisingly good! Not saying she can't cook (she is a wonderful Southern cook and I learned from her) but I wasn't sure how it would turn out using canned pie filling. I don't normally like canned pie filling that much.

| | I got some HUGE artichokes at Central Market. They were about the size of my head, and I boiled them with some sea salt and lemon. Served with a delicious lemon butter, the first course was complete.
Second course, a salad: some romaine hearts topped with marinated artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, baby cucumbers, toasted almonds, and lemon juice.
Main course, the seafood: I made a sauce of green onions, garlic, and champagne. Poured it over some nice sea scallops and shrimp and sprinkled it with Parmesan. Baked until done, very very delicious.

| | Nothin' Fancy... We packed up "The Grannies" -- a.k.a. my Mom and M-I-L, and took them wine tasting with my daughter in the Livermore-Pleasanton area in the East Bay, so picnic lunch consisted of breaded/baked chicken drumsticks, green salad, fruit salad, sourdough and pecan bars for dessert. Both of my boys had to work so will be doing belated Mother's Day activities with them this week.
Cheers,
Micki

| | We had an afternoon tea, so we made tea, coffee, apricot-cream cheese scones, lemon curd, my favorite tea sandwiches (cream cheese, bleu cheese, pecans, mayo, worcestershire sauce, and onion flakes on marble rye), cucumber sandwiches, turkey sandwiches on nutty wheat bread with cranberry mustard, petites fours, lime cooler cookies. We also served chocolate mint lentils, double cream, black raspberry jam, and orange marmelade that I did not make. Oh, and we had hot chocolate for the young folks. |

| | I made dinner for my in-laws.
Pepper steak w/garlic mashed potatos for dad. (filet mignon covered with cracked peppers. Deglazed the pan with some brandy, added heavy cream, beef stock, and a little tomato paste for color. I also piped the potato, so they looked pretty. )
Chicken Marsala for Mom. (sautee' some crimini mushrooms in butter. Same pan, I sautee' chicken, deglazed with marsala wine, add chicken stock, heavy cream, roux, and reduced.)
For my g/f and I, we had Shrimps & scallops sambuca. (One pan, I sautee' fennel, onion, blanched carrots & Celery. Another pan I Sautee' the shrimps & scallops, deglazed with Sambuca, add heavy cream. Combine everything together. I placed the seafoods in a puff pastry cup that I made earlier and the cup sat on top of the bed of veggie.)
I made some generic napoleone desert. I had to use up all the puff pastry dough.
