I jumped for joy in the middle of Downtown Chicago when I saw this news clipping run across the NBC scrollbar sign.

City repeals foie gras ban :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Metro & Tri-State

"When (Alderman Joe) Moore tried to debate the merits, Daley ruled that the measure was not debatable. He ordered the clerk to call the roll and to continue, even as Moore shouted for the right to be heard."

Not only did Mayor Daley repeal the ban, he also totally humiliated the key Alderman in favor of the ban. Good work there, Mayor, good work!

This is all so crazy anyway. Where do people get off thinking they have a right to dictate what others may or may not eat?

Are any other cities that you know of planning a ban? Might New Yorks be repealed?

It's about time! This ban was a joke and many chefs I know treated it as a joke. I'm glad Daley shut down Moore. The guy made a decision on only partial information and emotion. Where does the city council get off trying to dictate what people can and cannot eat?

I do feel a bit bad for the geese that have that happen to them though, More time should be spent finding out how to do that without like shoving a pipe down an animals mouth but meh maybe its cause iv never had Foie Gras before.
