| | this thread has taken a turn for the worst. i may be young, but i have been working in kitchens for a couple of years now, and i have worked with some seriously bad a** women who can hold down 2 stations at the same time in the heat of a friday night at 7, i have also worked with some who are, sadly, some of the dumbest people i have ever come in contact with [i've worked with some really dumb guys too] a perfect example, the chef asked for a brush while he was doing some pastries, she brought back a toilet brush. true story, happened this morning getting ready for the mother's day buffet [happy mother's day to all you mums out there] it all really depends on the person, that's all it comes down to on saturday night with a window full of food and new tickets. granted, there may be more chef's and cooks who are men, myself included, but that just makes me give even more respect to the women who can hold it down, while being heckled by mostly crude co-workers. with that said, to all you women cooks/chefs out there, my hat's off to you

| | Gracious, thats something of a statement. What thought or scholastic enterprise has gone into this remarkable and apparent outcome. Modest study would repudiate the statement. And if one wishes to go a little deeper , it was predominently the women who cooked. But I should not shatter anyones illusions. It is so close to ego, and we all know about that. |

WOW! Yet again you stun me w/ your ignorance...
Seriously, and I quote:"Science???What you call science, we normally label as: BS OPINIONS"...?!
If this is your train of thought, then I regretfully decline my love for science.
You do however leed the pack in the art of ignorance. You are sooooooo far off point with this, I think you should just drop things and realize that the world, AND REAL LIFE, is far bigger then your mindset.
I feel for you. You will unknowingly close the doors on awesome oppertunities, due in short to this closed mindedness you seem to have. The moment you realize that you can learn from EVERYONE in a kitchen(OR ANYTHING IN LIFE), you will realize that you have passed judgement on persons you could of learned a lesson from, therefore making you a more knowledgable, and well rounded person.
The industry is tough, there are those that CAN, and those that CAN NOT cut it. REGARDLESS OF SEX, CREED, OR COLOR...There are just as many MEN who make excuses to bail on a shift. There are just as many MEN who say they are sick, when it's a hangover. And I use the word "MEN: loosley, BOYS didn't validate the point.
You can not come up w/ an excuse that can not transend both sexes. Women will always be in the workforce. AS WILL LINE COOKS! Heaven forbid you get a Woman Boss/Owner one day. Be sure to fill her in on your egotisticle views, and I am more the certain SHE will be more then willing to fill you in on how SHE came to be in that posisition. And yes, there are women who own bussineses.
Best of luck, open your mind and the eyes will follow.

I am niether a feminest, OR a Ladie/WOMAN! And I do WORK, to the tune of 76hrs-82hrs per week...and what do YOU want out of this? I do not feel I am being treated unfairly. I OPERATE A CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL WITH A B.O.H. STAFF OF 60 PEOPLE. AND WITH EVERYONES HELP I CLOSED LAST YEAR W/ 1.3 MILLION IN BANQUET SALES AT AN AVERAGE FOOD COST OF 24.7%...AND LEMME TELL YOU I HAVE 19 WOMEN IN MY TEAM.
I am niether A feminist OR a woman, quite the contrary. I am a 6'3", 280lb,MAN. Sleved in ink and then some...hence the name crazy TATT(first choice was taken). I say MAN, because I am not a little minded BOY, who holds these notions of "I am uber male...you are a woman".
What do YOU want out of this? YOU feel the need to support your less then majority views and opinions. YOU feel the need to belittle people based on gender. YOU feel the need to post after FOODPUMP TELLS YOU TO DROP IT, yet Don't, then agree? I simpily made a long winded sentence/rant of FOODPUMPS post.
Lemme know when you have 15 years under the belt, and have experienced things outside of your closet world. You are only setting yourself in a path of ignorance. You CAN NOT PROSPER IN THIS FIELD WITH YOUR CURRENT MINDSET! I'm not sure what part of the world you live in, but the whole women are inferior complex went out the window durring sufferage. Get out of the sticks, and move somewhere where you can benifit from a mixed society. I imagine you have developed this mind set through the opinions of some of your contemperaries, and you should be smarter then that.
Please, if you preach the whole "we are in a new age" thing, and " you can do the job or you can't" philosophy...READ WHAT A MILLION AND SIX OTHER PEOPLE HAVE POSTED BEFORE YOU PUT IN YOUR .02c. If you felt this way, why would you of posted the inflamitory remarks that started this whole threadjack? Or are you the say as I do, not as I say, type...in other words a hypocrit? Sorry dude, I am sure you try to mean well, but this is just a subject where you have not offerd a realistic or unbiased view, where as to, women are worse in the kitchen, then men.
I do not take sides. I have seen women fail at a position. I have seen MEN fail at a position. Like I(AND MANY OTHERS) said, You CAN or you CAN NOT. Your opinions are just offset enough to make me type all this jarble to try and explain to you that you are the MINORITY in this mindset. I would hate to see a fellow cullinarian fail in career, or life, based on some confedirate, shallow-minded nonsense. If you want to grow in this field you need to forget the past, embrace the now, and realize that people are equal.

I am well aware this is not your THREAD.
I was illustrating the point, I AM FAR FROM A FEMALE.
Ink or not, I am who I am, bad *** or not. If the body is a temple, I'm going to paint the walls.
You have 15 years experience, and are still a line cook? The road to mediocracy is paved with your mindset.
And as far as the "eating the profits" remark...I'm guessing that is just a wannabe cut from your feeble, low budget brain. If I, or "ALL MEN OVER SIX FEET" ate the profits, we wouldn't be able to afford to hire lil ol Napoleons.
I'm glad you get the satisfaction of arging over the internet. I'm guessing by the way you portray yourself, you get very little human interaction. Maybe by sucumbing to your "superior intellect", you can feel a little bit better about yourself.
I'm glad to see you have experience. I just hope you are not passing your ideals along to newwbs who don't know any better.
Best wishes...

I wonder at what point the split came with men running off to take food to all kinds of strange and unusual extremes? (Julia Childs aside)
| So food was all good until men came along and it's been downhill ever since? Quote: |
It's just a fact of life that women throughout history have had to juggle stuff in their lives (multi-tasking) that men haven't.
| And there are plenty of things that men had to juggle to. You make it sound as though men just go off to laze around while you women had to handle everything. Quote: |
Nowadays many women even have to hold down a job to boot, WHILE taking care of growing kids, WHILE maintaining the household. Sick or injured, for centuries women with a family have always had to be on-call 24/7...and it's still a fact that statistically women do most of the homebody stuff.
| And while women have had to go into the workforce men have also had to adjust and take on way more responsibilities at home. And while women may still do the majority of the "housework" as you claim, it is true that men still take care of the majority of the yardwork, repair work, etc. Quote: |
Like I said, I'm not making the science up.
| No, but you are not stating sceintific facts either. All those theories you have state are just that theories, conjectures, and suppositions. They sound good. They seem logical, but they are unproven as is most of foresnic anthropology. Quote: |
Pete, I'm sure if you go back and re-read my posts in relation to what was being said without the defense filters set on high, you will probably get the point of what I was trying to say.
| My defenses aren't on high. If you read what I say, I agree that there is no room for sexist attitudes in the kitchen. Either you can hang or you can't. That's the test.
I have nothing against you or your stand, but I do think that you have come across, at times, implying that women are the "greater" sex. You have allowed a complete bonehead to piss you so much that you have made statements that undermine your arguement. Why allow yourself to be pulled into this, quickly deterioating conversation by someone who is probably just continuing this to see how many people he can piss off. I really hope this wasn't directed towards me. I have disagreed with some of your statements, and feel they have weakened your arguments, and have been put off by your seeming belief that women are better suited to handle juggling a career and running a household, but I am not making it personal. If that is really where you want to go....

| | You say tomatos, I say tomahtos... I'm with you, Kuan...(great posts CT)
I write pretty clearly. If I meant to say once men got into the cooking fray that food went downhill, I would have said precisely that. I don't understand the need to put words in my ... well ... posts ...
So as they say, you can't push someone if they don't push back...
