How often should instant read thermometers be replaced? Is cost an important factor in the accuracy of instant read thermometers? Are the digital thermometers worth the expense and do they hold up any longer than the analog ones?

I replace my thermometer when it stops reading accurate. When boiling water doesn't register at 212. And yes, I do adjust mine. I personally like the digital style better than the old analog. I think you get a more accurate reading and its easier to see.

I like the digital ones myself and feel that if you use it on a daily basis then it is worth the extra cost. I never had a problem with the analog and never had to worry as much about them if I lost them. Usually I replaced my every year just to be safe.

My thermometer was crushed by a 6'5 300 lb kitchenhand on a mission... so i am now forced to use the probe in our rational combi oven until it is replaced... moral to the story is dont leave your thermometer sticking out of precarious places :-) ------------------ C=:-) Dave

Dave, I'll bet you probably didn't say a single disparaging thing to your kitchenhand, did you?
