Ok let me be the first to say that I sincerely hope that everyone's favorite cooking site on the net is ChefTalk ! I will agree there are other sites that are much more recipe focused and ChefTalk can't really compete in the area.------------------ Thanks, Nicko nicko@cheftalk.com

http://www.ontherail.com/ is pretty neat, also. It also has a section for the waitrons. It's neat to read their postings regarding Anthony Bourdain. Apparently, he isn't as popular with them as he is with us!

I like (besides ChefTalk) Link Culinaire, Chef Connect, and Star Chefs. By the way, you can be linked to all these sites from my site (gratuitous plug) http://www.angelfire.com/ky/chefjohnpaul Basically it is a site of culinary links.

Another fun one is http://www.stainedapron.com It's mostly about waitrons but it is just hysterical. I always catch myself laughing outloud when I'm there. Other good sites are http://www.chef2chef.net and http://www.culinex.com Kathleen ![]()

Kathleen, There was a article about the stained apron website in the paper here. I visited and read some comments. What I read there makes me want to eat at home for the rest of my life. I couldn't believe restaurant staff could be that discusting. Sisi

Hi Sisi,I know, a lot of what you read on that site is REALLY alarming! (Though, I must admit, hysterically funny as well.) I have to say that after 15 years in the business I have yet to work in a place where that type of stuff goes on. The key is to eat at places where you can tell that people care about their jobs and the product/service they provide. (This is usually pretty easy to spot) This is true of most fine dining restaurants, but can also be true of Red Robin or McDonalds - it just depends upon the managers/owners and their attitudes towards, and treatment of, the staff. It seems that in general the "revenge" stories one reads on stainedapron.com are tales of horrid people and/or managers getting their just desserts. Though I definitely don't condone what goes on, I can certainly sympathize! Kathleen [This message has been edited by chefkath (edited September 17, 2000).] |

Just for laughs, you have to go to the Regrettable Food website (don't remember the URL - I'm really bad at that). It is hysterical; every nightmare dish that some of us remember from our 50's and 60's childhoods. Another great source for recipes is SOAR; they have over 67,000 recipes. The site is run by Berkeley; it isn't always really fast, but the variety of stuff is amazing. There's a very informative site on not-so-common food items called "Eat Ethnic." There are a lot of other ethnic food websites out there as well, just go to your favorite search engine and type in what you're looking for - like "russian recipes" and it'll take you where you want to go. Speaking of Russian recipes, does anyone have the recipe for a dish that translates as "herring in a fur coat?" It sounds awful, but it's great.
