Smile How would you like to cook here?

My local newspaper, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, ran an article about a local native who's baking at McMurdo research station in Antarctica. It's a fun read, and she sounds like someone who'd hang out here at Chef Talk. Baker adjusts to cold world of Antarctica - JSOnline

So I got to thinking more about the topic. and did a little Googling. Very little really; I'm not too good at it. But I did find a link to food service operations at the bottom of the world: http://www.nsf.gov/about/contracting...oodsvc-700.pdf

I'd sure like to get in touch with Josie. I think she'd enjoy this community. Maybe someone else is better at this kind of thing than I am. Hm? I think at one time we have/had a member who did a stint there, but I don't know who it is/was.

One of the guys I work with did time, cooking, in the Navy, down at the "bottom" of the world. He said it was a great experience but one he never wanted to do again!

Sounds like they eat a little better down there today, than they did in the time of Scott and Shackleton.

One of my cooks is waiting for his paperwork to go to Antarctica for 6 months later this year. Sounds like a cool experience, to say the least.

My son Max is supposed to go there this winter (their summer), but not to cook. I suppose your cook and Max are too old for us to arrange a play date.
