WTG Koukouvagia!!

I'm down 46 lbs now so have lost 11 since posting on this in June. I guess that's not so bad considering we've been smoking lots of boston butts since July and attending quite a few cookouts. I haven't exercised like I was and have not been eating well. I've skipped meals, eaten a lot of unhealthy "junk" foods, and more desserts. I started back logging calories today and am going to get with the program. I did have a calorie laden lunch but planned ahead so I could do that and limited what I ate at lunch. Now I'll have lunch for two more days off that one meal. lol Now to get back into exercising!

I have been inspired by you all......

What a fantastic thread. I had lost weight but those unwanted friends found themselves back on my hips and stomach.
I did the whole chemo thing two years ago and got down to size 8 and I am now a size 14. In april of this year I had a headache that would not go away, went to the hospital, they released me 2 weeks later....more bad news. Lately I have been eating and eating and just can't stop. I know that 90% of it has do with stress.
All I want to do is cook on my time off.
I refuse to let myself stay on this path of self destruction. I am a nurse so I know all about what to eat and what not to eat. In the end , I think we all know.
I am so happy to have this opportunity to get to know you all a little bit. You are all an inspiration to me.
I just ate 2 hot dogs and a french fry for supper with a coke. Tomorrow is a new day, with a new goal. I will check this thread a few times every week just to see how you are all doing. You have my full support.
This is what I have been needing, a wake up call and a good swift kick in the a....

Petals,
Thank you for sharing your story, I hope all goes well with the news you've received. Stress is a huge contributor to weight gain/loss and overall health. I hope you have the support necessary to tackle these issues. Healthy body = healthy mind is more true than we care to believe. Here are some motivational quotes I read everyday to keep myself going.

"Falling down is not failure....Failure is staying down."
"Those who argue for their limitations generally get to keep them..."
"The only thing standing between who you are and who you want to be is what you do"
"If you want it, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse"
"A body in motion stays in motion."
"If I don't take care of my body where will I live?"

What pearls of wisdom.

Thank you for the kind words. I am doing well besides all. I must refocus my attention to my diet and exercise, they both go hand in hand. Again you all have my support. What a great topic. One day at time.........

Stress does have a huge effect on what and how we eat. I know that stress and my social life has taken a toll on my eating habits lately. Going out to eat with friends 2 days this week really sabotaged me. I cook so much at home and try to keep it healthy so when out, I have a hard time exercising the self-control to eat healthy and not load up on junk food. I have to change that and will be starting today!

Petals, I hope all goes well with your latest medical scare. Hang in there!

Thanks for those motivational quotes!

I've been told to lose weight (as if I didn't know I had to ), and the advice my doctor gave me was: cut down portion size by 15 to 20%, and reduce carbs significantly. Also, from the lab numbers he gave me, I figured out that I have to cut waaaaaaaaaaaay back on alcohol consumption.

That worked for the first 20 pounds or so, but now I finally have had to add exercise . I hate it (Nordic Trak) but what can I say, it seems to be helping. That and lots of walks at a good clip.

I haven't had a full plate of pasta in I don't know how long, but as long as I have good vegs available, I'm doing okay.

Allie, everyone has a fight. There are many on this site with health issues, for me , anyone suffering needs to know they are cared for. I refuse to let anything take away my joy of life, I have always maintained that even being sick.
I take no credit for those wonderful quotes, Koukouvagia posted them and I just reposted them to thank her, she is a gem. Losing weight and maintaining it is a big fight in this day and age. The food industry has seduced us into thinking that BIG is better, SUPER SIZE, Max, DOUBLE, anything to make us think we are getting more for a buck. They should be all put out to pasture for the brainwashing they have done to the new and upcoming generation who know of only what they have been told by big corporations who are only thinking of lining their pockets. What about the arterial walls full of cholesterol ? High BP, diabetes, and angina ? Who is going to take care of them when they are sick ? Health care ? Nope. ...I am just sounding off, don't mind me.....on another note....

I agree with you Suzanne, there are alot of calories in alcohol. It is said :
"With 7 calories per gram, the number of calories in alcohol is second only after fat (9 cals/g)."

It can be so hard especially when you go out or entertain. The battle of the bulge has been in existence I think since butter !
