I got my girlfriend a kitchen aid mixer. I swear...it's for her not me.....really, she wanted one.... I got a braun hand blender and "Foie Gras...A Passion" it rocks. An entire cookbook devoted to fat!!!! Look for more of a review in the cookbook forum as soon as I finish reading it.

I love those Braun handblenders! I use mine constantly at work. I have even gotten a few of the other cooks to buy their own after they saw how versatile mine is.

I just found this forum while surfing. Seems like a wonderful place.

For Christmas I got some books. The Art Of The Cake and The Professional Pastry Chef. I should say that I am a French, you'll notice my english is far from perfect, and mostly use French books. English cookbooks are somewhat of a novelty for me.

The Art Of The cake is a nice book. It's mostly a assembly book, giving instructions as how to assmeble cakes. Interesting discussion on North American flour and it's starch content.

I am somewhat puzzle by The Professional Pastry Chef maybe it's because I have heard so much about it but I was a bit disappointed by it. I expected more techniques not only recipes. I'd love to hear someone else opinion on this.

Bonne Année!

Cool

In regards to the Professional Pastry Chef by Bo Friberg....this is an awesome cookbook and every recipe I've tried has been great. Some of them seem kind of complicated, but worth the extra work to get a superb finished product. The breads are a real hit at dinner parties, especially the star braid on page 56. Your friends will think your the best when you bring this one!! Enjoy....

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it more time. I certainly haven't gone trough it yet. I should have more free time since the holidays are over.
