Default Depressing food.....

I am going on week #5 without a kitchen and it is killing me! My wife and I just completed a move and are waiting for our new place to be ready for move-in. Meanwhile, we have been floor and bed-hopping with family for those 5 weeks. blah!

Anyways, having been in so many different houses recently, I have come to realize something.....the sound of cold cereal hitting a bowl in the morning really, and I mean REALLY depresses me.

I don't know why....maybe it is the sound of "no hot food here!" Or maybe it is the sound of "I am a dish that hasn't changed in 50 years except for maybe getting way too sugary." Or maybe it is the fact that even though I enjoy cold cereal, I know that if I were to have any, I end up feeling sluggish and unsatisfied for half a day.

It's not even the amount of the food either. I literally prefer nothing for breakfast (or a single cup of black coffee) to a bowl of cold cereal. And I do enjoy a bowl of cold cereal at times. But if the cereal is meant to be an actual "meal," then I prefer nothing.

And yes....I am sharing cooking duties at the houses where we are staying, so I am not being ungrateful so there! :P

Are there any foods that depress you or make you sad? I know I can't be the only one!

Egg Salad sandwiches. When I was young I was eating an egg salad sandwich and witnessed a mortifying event. For the next half hour, through the police and everything else I held the bite in my mouth until my uncle came to pick me up...

People think I'm strange because I love deviled eggs but won't touch an egg salad sandwich. And if they pester me enough I'll tell them about it. And if they pester me more and more I'll tell them what the event was.

Other people's left overs. That's really depressing to me. I love my own left overs but when someone puts out their left overs for me it makes me depressed.

Demolitron, please tell us what happened....is it that Bad ?

I would have to say......peas.
When I was young, my sister hated them. My mother would make her sit at the table until she finished them....sometimes for a verrry longggg timeeee. I would watch her face as these little green balls filled her cheeks like a squirrel as she refused to swallow them. I would watch her from the other side of the table as I did my homework and ate my cookies and milk (yep I did that) .....every now and then my mother would walk in and scold her. I remember feeling so bad for her. I even cursed those peas for putting my sister through the torment of sitting there wanting to gag.
Do not serve me a pea today. Yep......peas

My MIL grew up in Port Lincoln, South Australia - tuna capital of Australia. Her father was a fisherman, and would always be bringing tuna home. Probably fish that these days peole would pay a fortune for. As a child they ate tuna 5 days a week.....Never once in the time I knew her did she ever eat fish - always steak or chops.

Familiarity definitely bred contempt there.

5weeks without a kitchen? That's depressing indeed! How are you able to survive? Lol.
What are my depressing food?

*Kentucky Fried Chicken without gravy
*Pizza without Pepperoni and mozarella
*Sugarfree chocolateeees!

When I eat those, I feel like eating something that is not satifying. Haha!

Got another one - pork fat with all the fat removed. Not so much depressing I guess as disappointing. Need at least a little for flavour.

instant noodle. As delicious as it is, I can't feel anything but feel a little depressed, like I'm eating a HUGE waste of calories and preservatives. A huge, delicious one, that is.

That, and another was, "awww, I don't have anything so much that I have to eat this. Gotta buy some groceries. Yum, this is GOOD."

Perhaps an odd one, but the sight of overcooked Black Pudding is something that makes my heart sink.
