| Wondering how you would define savory dishes. I've heard it used in multiple contexts, from "sweet vs savory" to "savory as the new flavor for taste buds along with bitter, sweet, salty, etc." What was the traditional definition? Opinions/answers? |

| Think of the opposite of sweet, strong flavors like meat, herbs, onions. A steak broiled is savory. A salmon baked is savory. A piece of chocolate is sweet, a custard is sweet. |
