Since we're dreaming, how about a calm dinner in the King David Hotel in a peaceful Jerusalem?

Thud, back to the real world.

I second Perigord. Can't get enough foie gras and truffles! La France me manque...

I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised by the number of people who have still choosen France as their destination. I really expected to see lots more Southeast Asia destinations. I guess France still has what it takes!! Still want to hear from everyone else though. And remember, no destination is too mundane. If dining on fresh clams on the Cape is what you desire, then so be it. Or even if it is a night at grandma's, dining on her homecooked standards. It is your fantasy, any place counts!

Could Dear Abby get her tickets in the time traveling section? She longs not so much for a place, as a time in her life.

It may be boring but I'd head to Jackson County Oregon. Eat Freshly caught steelhead, wild blackberry pie and drink some great Oregon Pinots, purusse(sp) the antique shops in Jacksonville, eat salt water taffy at Brookings alot of things.
Maybe I'm a snobbish and boring American but I can't think of any place I'd rather be. While there are surely more things to experiance in those far away lands dreamt about earlier in the post I find the simplest of pleasures to be the best at this point and station of my life. So maybe I'll skip the flight after all and get in my car and head up the coast. I should be there in about 12 hrs.

Yay, Fodigger!! We so often forget, in our hurry to see the world, what a wonderful bounty we have in our very own backyards! Thanks for the reminder!

As I said fodigger, no place is boring or mundane if that is what you desire. And I do agree, this country does have a lot of great food destinations. I have caught and smoked salmon in Alaska, pressed cider and made maple syrup in Vermont, dined over campfires after a day of running the rapids in Dinosaur National Momument, dug clams on Cape Cod, hunted morels in Indiana, picked wild black raspberries throughout this country, and yet there is still more, right here in this country that I want to do and see.

Considering the vast array of cuisine available I would have to pick Paris. Remnants from the colonization efforts of France have resulted in natives from North Africa and Asia producing top notch cuisine. Not to mention the French food.

Tuscany and Catalonia are tied for a close second in my book.

However, If meals were also covered I might opt for Tokyo instead.

Pete and Fo I have to agree with you and the others that stated the good old USA. The question stated 2 round trip tix to anywhere in the world. Naturally I thought global.
But I too have lived in Vermont and Alaska and did the syrup and smoked fish thing as well as picking blueberries with the bears. I lived in Maryland and caught my own blue claw crabs and blowfish etc. Did the Florida thing with gators and orange groves. Pennsylvania with German Dutch influences as well as old world styles of food and living.
Upstate NY now with the grapes and apples and Eiswein.
I drove from Alaska through Canada, Wyoming, Montana, N. & S. Dakota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio etc.
I have stepped foot in 27 out of 50 states and look forward to some day seeing all of them. The whole worlds beauty really is available right here in our backyard.
Bottom line: Move over Fo, I'm going too!

I think that one main reason why so many people favored far flung/overseas destinations was that the travel/airfare was paid for. I dream of touring the Mid-South and Mid-West, sampling the regional variances in BBQ. I would love to go to New Mexico when the green chiles are just harvested and are being roasted roadside. The U.S. has an incredible amount to offer, it is just that the American locations seem more attainable and likely trips.

Cool

I think I'd fly into Maine, rent a car, and tour through the states that make up New England.

I'd flip a coin, either Tokyo or Paris.

Up to this point I've spent 1 day in Paris and have been longing to go back ever since. I'd eat and eat and then eat some more. Visit kitchens and the chefs in the kitchens. Do we get to bring along an intrepreter?

Tokyo because Japanese food just facinates me. Tokyo also has the largest/most active fish market in the world and I would love to spend each morning there just seeing all the different kinds of seafood as they come off the boats. Plus I'd like to try some of that deadly pufferfish.
