| I read on woodworking site about what can be used to finish wood that will be in contact with food- some mentioned were mineral oil, linseed oil, tung oil, walnut oil. They mentioned that walnut oil will not go rancid and does dry into the wood. Does anyone use walnut oil on your wood cutting board? I ruined my last cutting board, although it wasn't a good quality one to begin with. I just purchased a quality wood board and want to be sure to maintain it properly. I know that many use mineral oil, but I'd like to use walnut oil if that would work. Mineral oil is from petroleum, and I just can't bring myself to use it on my body, let alone my food prep. area... Thanks. Barbara |

| In the fine woodworking course I'm taking someone asked this question. My instructor (a conservator at a local museum) said that walnut oil is best because it hardens. He also went onto say that any oil or finish you put on it would come off anyway so maybe it was best to just not put anything on. |
