OK so I have tried and tried but seem to have major problems when trying to remove the beard. This is the hardest task for me to complete and I must know is there anyway to go about this without killing myself in the process?

No quick fix for that issue.

But,You can by Prince Edward Island mussels in 10 pound units that are de-beared and not at all expensive

Yes, mussels are definitely available debearded and cleaned. I bought some retail last week.

How do you cook them, mage? Last week I steamed them in white wine and anisette, and added them at the last minute to a Mediterranean-style fish stew -- wow, were they good!

When the beard is pulled they start to die, ths is why I will not buy the de bearded ones. I have no problems debearding them, pull down on the beard and the shell cuts and does all the work? I find it amazing that people will actually not do the work now a days and buy everything pre done???
