Default Bill Frisell

I know there are other Guitar lovers in our community and we recently chatted about Steve Vai and I just wanted to share that I recently caught Bill Frisell and The Unspeakable Orchestra at Orchestra Hall. It was a great concert and Bill Frisell is still one of my all time favorit guitarists. The show started with an opening band called The Bad Plus and they were awesome just a drummer, upright bass and a piano player.

Frisell was the highlight though. Watching Frisell play is really something he doesn't seem like he is doing very much but the sounds that come out our just amazing. It was also really something see someone play one guitar the entire show (fender) as opposed to Steve Vai who changed guitars for every song (almost). It was a funny concert in that Bill Frisell really doesn't talk much and at one point between songs he paused and said "Well I guess I should say something.... Hello... Thanks for coming out". The crowd was in an uproar it was so funny. His encore song was a "protest" song which at first sounded like he was going to make a political statment but then he said that he is just sad about the way things are in the world. It was a great song and half way through he broke into the Burt Bacharach tune "What the World Needs Now is Love", it was awesome.

Hey Nicko sounds like a great show. To be honest I wasn't familiar with Bill Frisell, I had heard of him, but not actually heard him. So I did a little research and listening and I can see where you would like him. He has a very eclectic sound and very interesting, I could hear a little McLaughlin, a little Fripp and even a little Danny O'Keefe in there (believe it or not!) very interesting player, I will have to hear more.
As far as Steve and his guitar changes go he pretty much only changes between 2 guitars, Flo, EVO. He also plays the mirrored JEM and occasionally the 2 and 3 necks but they are all Ibanez JEMS, even the acoustic is an Ibanez.

It was a great show. If you want to listen to some of Bill's work I would suggest checking out his playing with Naked City (John Zorn's group) also one of his more recent albums I like very much called "Nashville".

As for Vai you are right his main guitars were Flo and EVO but he alos used the Three necked guitar (open), the mirrored Jem, and the accoustic, I didn't see the 2 neck guitar.

Have you seen all his guitars on his website? It is mind boggling how many guitars he has and why?
