Sleep 'Jaws' Author Peter Benchley Dies at 65

Peter Benchley, whose novel "Jaws" terrorized millions of swimmers even as the author himself became an advocate for the conservation of sharks, has died at age 65, his widow said Sunday.
said he died Saturday night at their home in Princeton, N.J. The cause of death, she said, was idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive and a fatal scarring of the lungs. I just watch Jaws, it takes the winter blues away with all that nice water and sun.

Well I did not know that. Boy have I been in the dark. I loved the Movie Jaws but I did not like the enigma it put on the Great White. Ever wonder why they call them Great Whites? Well the shark is actually not white at all. It comes from the Latin "White" meaning wide. Its prehistoric cousin was 40 to 50 feet long and fossil teeth from this shark have been found has long has 8 inches. It was called megladon, sorry cannot spell the other part of it. Strange thing is there have been unverified reports that megladon may still exists. Boy that would be terrible to run into on a quiet day of fishing.Something the size of a Greyhound bus with TEETH!
Great Whites in Australia rarely ever exceed 15 feet. Bruce the mechanical shark for the movie Jaws was 20 feet and made in three different sections. Top three areas of the world for Great White Attacks

1.South Africa
2.San Francisco California
3. Australia

Not necessarily in that order. Sorry I love sharks find them fascinating....
