Yawn TV chefs

Did any chefs on TV sitcoms have any influence on your decision to become a chef ?, I know for my self it was Jack on "three's company" who had a hand in the decision.

Jack is an inspiration. Always at home, lives with two beautiful women no money worries going out on dates with more beautiful women. What more could you want out of life.

Have you seen "Chef" on PBS or BBC. Now that would have been an inspiration for me, if I was not already in the buisness when I saw it. All the cussing, the outstanding cuisine always in money worries, no time for personal life..... why am I cooking again???

Eventhough I inspiredsd myself, the iron chefs have done the final convincing.

Dlee, I've actually only ever seen one episode of Chef, as it turns out it was the last one ever aired on my cable access network.

I must admit, it was Graham Kerr. he was having just way too much fun..

I caught the first two seasons of Chef! on tape back in the early 90's. That show hit home so hard... at the time I was working for a european trained/american chef who acted just like Blackstock!

I still pull them out every once in a while for laughs.....

I am not a chef, but Julia Child and Graham Kerr (in his Galloping Gourmet days) opened the culinary world to me beyond my mom's kitchen. I watched them faithfully the summer after my freshman year in college, when I came home to keep house and do all the family meals. They inspired me to try all kinds of dishes with seasonal ingredients, and sauce reductions and God knows what else on my family that summer. Too bad I never followed that love into the business. Maybe that's where I belonged all along....

Lately the Chef's on T.V are getting more like a real chef(Rob Fennie,Micheal Smith)I like Chefs that wear the proper clothes and do things that a resturant would do.Not cook like my mom.

Well I admit it. My first TV Chef was Graham Kerr. I also used to love watching the Galloping Gourmet. In fact the first "real" dish I ever cooked for my family was his recipe for Swordfish wit Macademia nuts. It was delicious. After that it was of course Julia and later on Martin Yan of "Yan can cook."

I don't think a TV chef influenced me to become a chef...I just wanted to make sure I had a good meal on the table (sorry mom, I love you)I loved the PBS shoe "Chef" Don't get it here any more

You can borrow my Mom for dinner, Cape, her food rocks! And it was her cooking, not a TV chef's, that inspired me to do what I do. It was the weirdest thing when she called me up before the holidays to ask me how I make German potato salad, because I tried to duplicate hers when I came up with my recipe!
I do have respect for a few TV chef's, though. Julia and Pepin, mainly. I like Flay's food, but absolutely abhor his shows.
