Thumbs up this is an awesome community!

Hello

I don't know much about what the rest of you talk about but I do know a bit about online forums.

So... I just wanted to say - this is about the best one I've ever been on for balance of friendliness/support/interesting topics (to you i'm sure!!!)/enough people to keep things going/commitment to each other (willingness to meet together in person).

Oh, and probably no heavy handed censorship either...as in "You non-chef person - git outta here?!?!?! I bet you eat at MacDonalds!!!" - or whatever...

I wouldn't begin to know - who to give credit to although I daresay Papa would be high on the list.

Well feel free to tell me who *you think* has made this the awesome friendly online community that it is

It would be fun to know you'd get your vote...

(And don't expect to hear a lot from me on all those way-over-my-head chef topics. oh and i am very gardening-challenged too...but who knows...if you hit a topic i know something about someday... )

foodisme,

i could not agree with you more.

This is a wonderful site.
warm, friendly and so much knowlege and insight.
Even when a thread gets heated it is handled with respect.

Nicko is the man to thank who started the site with his chef friend Chris. At this point in time Nicko is the sole person responsable for keeping this site going.

Also the vast number of incredible people who enjoy cheftalk.

Dear foodisme:

Thank you for your kind words!

I think that your question has an easy answer. It is Nicko and his persality who attracted all of these wonderful people together!

It was Cape Chef, Momoreg, BritCook and everybody else with their warm hearted and sincere postings who made me comfortable to express myself.

I joined because I like Nicko. I stay because if I leave I will miss a lot of friends.

Foodisme,

Thanks to all for the credit, but really all I did was plant a seed. Way back when there were only about 50 or so members, but we kept plugging away. Little by little more and more excellent people made their way to ChefTalk and we have kept a good air about the community. Everyone in this community has worked extremely hard to keep this a friendly environment free of flamming, spam, and things of this sort.

I would like to second Cape Chef's comment about my friend Chris. Chris was also largely responsible for all of the excellent material you see on ChefTalk.com. I was more into the community so I put more effort into building the Cafe.

Glad your here.

Wow Nicko you seem to be getting almost all the votes!

Kewl.

Thanks for the welcome. I'll try not to ruin your boards...actually i'm quite reassured to see that's probably not possible!

[Btw someone asked me after church about Shrek for her 7 year old [son]. I said I thought it was relatively harmless because the humor was exactly what kids of that age delight in - I mean they already do...hopefully the outcome of this will not be that she never comes to me for advice again

I might add also that it's the kind of humor that is very popular in England. Everyone here knows about the subtle wit of Monty Python - I'm not sure if everyone knows about the predominance of more crude kinds of humor.

What bothers me much more is "adult" [basically I think I mean sexual] themes. I thought Shrek was very free of them, considering. And the "a true lover sees the heart" theme - to me, was so strong that overall I felt extremely positive about the message of it.

I see why other Christians find elements of it offensive, though and I respect that]

I probably should have put that on the other threat but then...one of my areas of expertise is jumbling up topics in threads... Feel free to - discipline me as appropriate, according to your authority as Moderator!

(Well - in my defense I would say that - sometimes the results are...ah...interesting...i mean, what use is it to put salt in something but then not stir/shake it...?)

See, I do know a bit about cooking, even!

Thank you, Nicko and Chris, and every building block that makes this community the only place I go on the net now And yes, I would say that since we've all met Papa, he is indispensible to Cheftalk. He is like the heart.

Adding up, that's a lot of cheers for you already, Nicko!

I see that you, Papa, are getting a strong vote too - wow, the 'heart' of this site! - I couldn't think of a better compliment to receive...

Isn't it neat to be in a place where two people can get strong votes and they don't have to duel it out? I mean, where there is enough affirmation to go around

You know honestly I don't think it is just Papa or I. I really think everyone hear is the heart of ChefTalk. I mean seriously where would we be without people like Jim or M brown early Cafe members who were the first to lend a hand by moderating forums? Great people who helped the Cafe become what it is. And we can't forget about Momoreg, Cape Chef and the ever so passionate Shroomgirl. And of course Papa with all of his wisdom and great stories. And there are also other amazing people like Layjo and Greg, Mezzaluna, and you to foodisme. What about the great words of Chef John Paul?

To me everyone is the heart of this community, and it is much like the human body. Some of us make up the right hand, other make up the left foot, and some make up the brain. Together we all make up the heart of this community and every plays a vital role. I truly hope that we are all still here after many years learning and growing together.
