| Have any of you found your true love while working in a professional (or non-) kitchen? What about the "Romeo and Juliet" scenario of front- and back-of-the-house romance? I met my future husband while working as a chef-he applied for a job and was a great hire. Funny, we can't seem to work in the kitchen together anymore. Lots of "You're not going to do it like that, are you?" I guess it's because I'm not his boss anymore.

| I met my husband while working at a wedding for 700. He was a former employee of the company, and still worked part-time at parties. He was outside working the grill, and I approached him, and since he looked like he knew what he was doing, I asked if that was his profession. He said he used to cook full-time, but now he works with computers. So I said, "oh, so you just need extra money to support your family, right?". As soon as he said he wasn't married, the rest was history.

| I met my wife twenty some years ago. We were working in a deli she as a waitress and me as a baker and prep cook. We would talk on our breaks until she finally ask me out. I'm still cooking but Kris is taking her comps for a Masters in Special Education in one month. I couldn't be more proud. |

| Those are great stories. I especially agree with the idea that it is good to marry someone who has a working knowledge of the industry. I had a hard and fast rule about never dating in the work place. I broke it one time and only once. I met my wife at Church. If it helps any I think she married me for my cooking

| I also did not date in the workplace. Until I met my husband that is! I guess when it's meant to be, it's just meant to be! Of course we were both students working for the government at the time, in the summer and part time during school so it doesn't really count! ![]() He also married me for my cooking. I married him because he's my most enthusiastic customer! |

| Met my wife 15 years ago when I worked for a Hilton I ran the evening shift in the kitchen and she was a server on the floor she was a very knowledgeable server I was impresssed we were married a year later I use to kid the new line cook trainees that she could flute mushrooms and make holllandaise better than most of them it was a macho motivator for young cooks on their way up .I think it is smart to marry some one who knows foodservice first hand otherwise most can not relate to the hours ,love ,and lifestyle this trade carries with it. just my thoughts Chocolate Bow. |

| I met my husband because we worked at neighboring restaurants. Mine, a coffee house / sandwich place that he would stop in before he went to work. His a microbrewery / restaurant that I would go to at the end of my shift. Eventually he got me a job in the kitchen at the brewery - he is a bartender. He remains one of those STRICTLY front-of-house people, he was an "us against them" guy, you know the type; if he messed up the order he would just blame the kitchen. Well...not any more! I think our marriage helped him understand the kitchen better. Even though he is still FOH all the way, he's less of a putz about it. Going home together at the end of the night is wonderful too. It makes a difference that we both speak the restaurant language. When getting ready to go out, we'll both be in the bathroom and he'll reach for his cologne and say "behind you!" It's nice.CS |
