Non-steel toe die-hards work the best for me. They're durable, well cushioned and have a good non-skid sole. Plus, I can get them in EE width which keeps my somewhat duck-like feet happy!

Birkenstocks. I wear nothing bu Birkenstocks [except in the snow]. Don't know how well they'd work in a kitchen though. Wouldn't protect your poor toes from falling knives, marble rolling pins, hot grease, etc.
I have tried quite a few of shoes and boots and finally have decided on Sika Clogs. they have a steel toe and are super comfy! They took me about a week to break in but they're worth it. I won't go back!
