| | | Nicko, I don't think there is anything shameful about being an Elvis fan...the man broke ground for so many musicians. We're lucky to have lived during his time as a rock star. Yes, he really was the first "rock star." I've listened to him since I was a child and will continue to do so with pride. As for the Cockteau Twins (which is in my collection), I don't ever remember buying it much less playing it. How DID that get in there???!!! |

| | I like the King, too. My fave song of his is "Suspicious Minds". Shroom, how could you not include a story about living with da' King? I'm all ears, oops, eyes.
As for William Shatner singing, ewwwww! Why doesn't he go back to being Captain Kirk? |

| | | I dunno, CDS - how do you feel about Bette Midler and Judy Garland? Actually, I think music is really kind of transcends gender; I like Melissa Etheridge and the Indigo Girls. So far, none of my husbands (previous or current) nor my kids think I'm gay. Music either "scratches your soul" as a friend of mine said, or it doesn't. Real Celtic music usually gets me, but then so do the Gypsy Kings and Bruce Springsteen. And Mozart and Vivaldi. There's a Schubert nocturne that, I swear, puts a lump in my throat every time I hear it, but there's a Lowen and Navarro song that has the same effect. Other than most country and elevator/dentist-office music, I can't think of a music genre that's totally revolting. Well, rap, maybe . . . |

| | MareyO, you bring up another confession I actually have a few rap tapes. In my defense they are older rap tapes from some of the actual artists who invented this style of music such as Curtis Blow, Run DMC. These guys actually rapped about meaningful subjects such as poverty, how they grew up, politics, etc. Now sadly this style of music has really been ruined by the many rappers who simply talk about how many women they have had sex with and how many people they have killed with their 9, gangs, etc. |

| | | It is a shame; the earlier rap style/content was a lot more socially meaningful. I find all of that super-aggressive stuff is pretty depressing. Give me some Otis or Aretha - now that's truly R&B!!! |

| | Well put MaryeO~ we can't always chose what turns us on.
Elvis in the mid 70's Well.....he was not in great shape....E used to rent out Doughnut places for his buddies, he took groups bowling on a regular basis....it was amazing the grief he got from the disc jockeys and when he died they called him a saint.....I mean they were cruel really cruel. I had a friend who played racquet ball at the King's Docs house (nice to have a court at your house) and Doc was huge into pushing drugs.....this is now known but I knew it then.....I'm amazed murder charges or at least his license pulled....???? |
