Toddler left in car.

In Ohio,a woman accidentally left her two year old child in the back seat for 8 hours in 90+ degree heat.

She was on her way to work as an Assistant Principal at a school,stopped to get donuts and totally forgot that she didn't drop the child off at daycare.There was a security film of her unloading the donuts from the back of her SUV,then she went to park and walked into the school to go to work.

During questioning,she stated that she's just been so busy "doing everything for everyone",that she literally forgot.

There are no plans to charge her.

My husband is of the opinion that she'll get enough punishment from herself for the rest of her life.I am of the opinion that she should be charged for the death of her child.To me,that type of negligence is inexcusable,regardless of how "busy" you are.Someone is dead because of her mistake.

Now,I understand forgetting things because of a hectic schedule,but HOW do you forget that your kid is in the back of your SUV for 8 hours? At some point,did she not happen to look in her rearveiw mirror and see her child in the car seat during the course of driving?

happened in STL with dbl doctors a couple of weeks ago.....7mo old....parents running late, mom called dad to come park the car as she ran into a meeting...he didn't realize their daughter had not been dropped off at daycare. Parked the car and the 104+ weather baked her in a very short time.

Sad. so sad. being physicians and having that happen is just crushing....
there are several more layers of guilt added to the whole mess because they are docs.


It's all about circumstances, the media here tried to make a big deal out of race or economic level or education level of parents that get punished by the law and those that don't. Each case is an individual.

What's even more disturbing is that in the past 10 years,around 340 children have died because of being locked in cars.Sure,340 may not sound like a large number over a period of 10 years,but that seems like an awfully large number of children who died for no other reason than the parents not paying attention on a particular day.

I still find it very difficult as a parent to grasp my head around the idea that someone could 'forget' their children?!? What the h*ll is up with that? How can anyone possibly be too busy or so tangled up in their self-absorbed world that they forget their child??

I know that my little girl wouldn't let me forget her... for instance, she'd cry or something if I just left her in the car and walked off. Then I'd hear here... wonder how come those other parents didn't at least hear their children left in the car?

Whether the parents should be charged or not depends on the facts of each individual case. From just reading news reports I doubt that we have as much facts and evidence as the police would have and that's why it's really a judgement call for the police to make.

Maybe some people just don't deserve to have children.

I think there is nothing the system can do to that parent that she won't do to herself times 10 every day for the rest of her life. Her prison/punishment is in her head and will be even if she were charged and jailed for a period of time. It is tragic to be sure and on so many levels.

I was forgotten by my mother but luckily survived all the incidents and luckily never in a car. Even if locked in the car, in that day and age, everything was manual and I could have wound the window down or pulled up the locks. To this day, I refuse to have electronic locks and/or windows on my car. I don't want to have the electronics go wrong and have me trapped inside.

As for crying or something if my mother walked off and left me... no way. Would I want a slap or worse for having created a commotion? No. When she left me, I was quiet as a mouse and dealt with it on my own.

Yes, such parents are tangled up in their own self-absorbed world such that they forget their children. I guess their all types of people.
