Default Another aspect of Nov. 8, 2007

Not to detract from Cape Chef's post, our company is laying off 2300 people tomorrow, Nov. 8.

We've all been kind of in a daze wondering and worrying too about our collective fate.

Unhappy

Wow, Doc.... that's a stunner. Are you one of those out of a job??

Having lived in a community that laid off/axed almost twice that number, I have an inkling of how rattling that is. (I lived in Kenosha, WI when they shut down most of what used to be American Motors after Chrysler bought them. Almost 5000 people lost their livlihoods.)

Is the company doing anything to soften the blow? Are there re-training programs, job networks, etc. or did they just pull the rug out and walk away?

Well, it was all over by 11:30am this morning, and my boss got hit yesterday, but we only found out about it today. I, I guess, was lucky, and still have a job, but a new boss whom I will have to start all over from Zero establishing a working relationship with. Better than sitting at home watching the cat scratch my TV!

Those who were let go got really good severance packages compared to anywhere else I've worked over the last 35 years. I thought my working days were through in Feb. 2005, but I ended up here making a LOT more than I would have if I was still at the last company where I'd been for almost 6 years.

So I guess ya just never know waz in store for one's self!

Thumbs up

I'm glad for you and your family, Doc. I'm sorry for those who will have to start over.
