Default Thanksgiving Blessings from a Child's view

Every Thanksgiving day, just when things would get a little hectic before dinner and the kids would be amping up, I would send them to each write down a few things they where grateful for. They read their lists as we sat down for dinner.

I found my childrens's lists yesterday as I cleaned out a storage area. Kind of nice to sit down and read again, 20+ years later.

There are some real basics, "Thank you for the cat, the dog, my warm house," etc. But some surprises always show up, also. Such as "Thank you for curtains, so the moon can't watch me all night." I didn't know she was afraid of the moon! Or, "Thank you, for the good sandwiches my mom puts in my lunch." I was very proud of this one until, he clarified that he could trade them for Joey's peanut butter and baloney sandwiches, and had been for months.

Anyhow, thought I would pass this one on, as it is now a fondly remembered tradition in our family, and always brought a few smiles to the table.

Lovely that you were able to reminisce after so many years. As I read what you wrote, I had a little warming heart twinge…. I liked the sandwich bit ;-) Along the same lines… for Christmas this year I was thinking, instead of presents, give / send a homemade reminiscing card. Something personal with the person – a memory of an adventure, or explaining how they touched my life…. Perhaps include a small item that coincides – a picture or postcard, a recipe or an ingredient, a drawing, ornament….
