Default Can we talk about Martha and Martha Stewart Omnimedia?

So I developed a love for Martha Stewart a little while ago, and got her baking book and used her recipes, etc. I think that I can fall back on her when I am unsure about a technique or recipe. However, there was always something holding me back from putting Martha Stewart posters up in my room and buying her latest records.

Now, I've never really liked her tv show, but I was flipping by it and found that she was standing there, on her tv show, talking about her new line at Macy's (if I hear one more time that she has a line at Macy's I will slit my wrists vertically for a certain death), and holding up each moss green item with the price on the screen. It's like, GOD don't you advertise this enough? Now, I was already on the edge, but this did it for me. I still use her baking cookbook, but I know it is tainted, but I don't go on her website and I WON'T buy her products or her magazines. Okay, the Christmas issue is the LAST issue!

Now, I know this "Omnimedia" is a collaboration of many people, but that totally doesn't make it okay.

I will still listen to her daughter on the Martha Stewart sirius radio channel because she is so jaded and I like to hear what jaded people have to say, but otherwise she is out of my life! She does have cute ideas though.. they probably aren't even hers!

Devil woman.

I've never understood the facination people have with her. The woman's whole schtick was making millions of women feel inadequate.

But I see that the James Beard Foundation has her hors ordeurve (sp) book on its list of the 20 must-have cookbooks. Go figure.

Thumbs down

She's another woman with a modest background who worked her way into being ubiquitous- just like Sandra Lee. I'm a fan of neither woman's public persona, but you have to give her credit for working her way from a working-class family into a marketing empire to be reckoned with.

Still, it's hard for me to cozy up to someone whose favorite word is "perfect".

When my daughter was about 2 (she's almost 14 now), I watched Martha religiously every day and I learned a lot. This was the old show with simple crafts using products easily found around the house or inexpensively in stores. She did simple recipes for the home cook and I learned how to roast my first turkey. To this day, I still roast my turkey the same way and have never been disappointed. After she came out with her K-Mart line, I became less and less interested in her show. When the new one started, I tried to watch it but couldn't make it through the first episode.

I do admire her, Paula Deen, Sandra Lee, and all the other women who have come so far from their roots. I think they are an example for all women and girls. However, my admiration for their rise in economic status, doesn't always make me an avid fan.
