Default Wal-Mart Cake

Last week one of the office staff was retiring, and we decided to get a cake for a small office celebration. Well, the person in charge of ordering the cake decided use Wal-Mart. The inscription was to read "Best Wishes Suzanne, We will Miss You." Here's a pic of the cake - Way to go, Wal-Mart!

In all due respect, Shel, the fact you were able to photograph the cake tells me that the person in charge picked it up without examining it first.

Surely if he/she couldn't take a couple of seconds to confirm that the inscription was right, that person shares the blame.

There are all sorts of reasons why the mistake could have been made---ranging from misunderstanding what was wanted (happens often, particularly on a phone order) to unquestioned following of the words given the decorator to out and out maliciousness. But the idea that the inscription would be right, without checking it, is unrealistic at best.

Personally, I would make sure of an inscription even from a high-end bakery, let alone WalMart.

With all due respect, it's a joke ... I don't even work in an office, never shop at Wal-Mart, and there isn't even a Wal-Mart within 30 miles of Berkeley.

Well, the "Bay Area" encompasses about seven or eight counties, and there are WalMart and Sam's Club stores in some of those counties. However, there are none in the East Bay, Marin County, and San Francisco, so that's four counties. Well, there maybe a WalMart in the far eastern area of the East Bay, but none that I know of. The general area in which I live, Marin County, and San Francisco, aren't ideal for WalMart stores anyway - not much space, very high land prices, and the demographic here is not particulary WalMart oriented.

I have to confess having shopped in a WalMart - or maybe it was a Sam's Club - I was somewhere in Missouri and stopped in to one of the stores because I needed a quart of oil, and the store was handy. First and only time I crossed the portal
