Default graduation presents

High school graduation is upon us and I'm at a loss on what to give a boy who graduating from high school and heading towards an ivy league college. About all I know is that he is charming and very bright. Any ideas for $15 - 35?

Money is always welcome! I usually give gift cards from electronics stores (Best Buy, etc.) or housewares places (Linens N' Things, etc.) so they can get items to furnish their dorm rooms. I have also given gift certificates to Amazon.com because they have so many different types of merchandise. (If you do buy from Amazon.com, please remember to use the link here at ChefTalk so we get a little credit for it. )

I had this discussion today with a friend of mine. Seems like female grads are easier to buy for, those pesky boys .

We decided that an engraved writing pen is nice and can still fit within your budget.

I tend to lean toward keepsake gifts as oppossed to practical stuff when it's graduation. I harbor a futile dream that they will still have the gift after college and remember the nutty lady that gave them the little doo dad when they really wanted more downloads for thier ipod.

Do they need to wear a tie? A tie pin could be an idea, if it would suit that person.
