Default Vegetarian Pizza

I've been reading a series about a hard boiled wizard detective in contemporary Chicago by Jim Butcher. Been quite pleasant reading if you enjoy fantasy. Anyway, there was an exchange in this one book between the main character and a filler character about getting pizza.

"What do your want on your vegetarian pizza?"

"Dead pigs and cows."

"What??"

"Hey--they're vegetarians."

On a similar note (food and fantasy story), Steven Brust's latest "Dzur" involves eating a rather amazing meal as the starting point into each chapter. Each chapter starts with a course in the meal. Fits well in the series, but in this case does not stand alone well.

Vegetarian pizza is disgusting. My ex girlfriend had me eat the stuff. I am a man, I demand real meat.

beleive a traditional chicago dep dish is spinach, mozz, and red sauce. A filling and delicious pizza. Love reading Brust, have read just about everything by him. Valabar's sounds like a wonderful restaurant, just wish it was real.

Surprised this got moved as it wasn't so much about food as jokes and books with good food scenes.

If Valabars was real, I couldn't afford to eat in it. Ever.

This is really bizarre to me. Most traditional pizzas are vegetarian by nature. Tomato and mozzarella, tomato and herbs and garlic (marinara), 4 cheeses, artichoke, mushroom, etc. A few types have a few token slices of hot salame (what you call "pepperoni") or a slice of prosciutto or of course, a few anchovies. Hardly meaty eating. Though not a man, i love meat, but pizza is not where i look for my chunk of beef! Yuck.

sorry, i can go either way. nice light vege with artichoke hearts, olives, tomatoes, etc or an all meat wonder with sausage, pepperoni, salami and bacon course i think i prefer pesto sauce with most of my vege pizzas also, not so much with my meat pizzas.

And don't forget the classic Margherita ....

A little bit of meat can be a nice adjunct to some pizzas, but all too often the pies come overloaded with meat (and cheese).
