| |  The summer is over
Feeling very bummed lately that the summer is over. It has been an incredibly mild summer here in Chicago and it makes me wonder if it will be another long cold winter like last year. Last year's winter was one of the longest, coldest ones we have had in Chicago for years.
Today was a beautiful day to relax, sit outside and sip a frappe.

Seems like we never even had summer this year and the last 4 weeks have felt like the end of September, but I'm not bummed. I'm hopeful for a long Autumn with plenty of chances for grilling out, BBQing and late evening fires at the neighbor's fire pit (not a lot of those during summer as it is usually too hot to think about fires). Not sure what this crazy summer means for winter, but again I really hoping for a nice long Fall. |

Last forecast I saw was colder and wetter this winter. I hope it is wrong! I plan on having a few more bonfires and BBQ's before the snow flies but I BBQ all winter(the shorter cooking time foods) so I can always have ribs  |

Summer may be starting to lose it's shine (such as it was here) but with Autumn and Winter come other delights, like spicy parsnip soup and the scent of mulling spices. |

Been a long cold and wet winter here - just about to get working on spring. Yay! our turn now

Our last hurrah was to spend the day walking to the park and then stopping by a street faire. We even got to see that ridiculous meat concoction that was posted on here a few days ago, where the meat is arranged around a wire teepee and the fire is underneath. Didn't try it to say the least.
Then we grilled a massive ribeye on the outdoor grill, made some roasted potatoes, and an excarole salad with pommegranates and a balsamic vinegraitte.

Was able to get away to Lake George for 3 nights. The weather was just beautiful, high of 80 in the day (swim) and cool at night.
There was a full moon the whole time. The fireworks were magnificent and lasted a very long time as we all celebrated Labor Day Weekend.
If anyone is going there any time soon or next year, I highly recommend a spot for breakfast called Sutton Market, it is very quaint (On Canada Drive street). While you wait for seating, there are numerous fresh baked goods, homemade jams, confectionaries, decorative dishes, and gifts you can buy right there.
I shopped till I dropped...........
I am not looking forward to winter. The one thing I do enjoy about winter is that I get to bake more. Love the homemade soups, baked breads and stews and turkey dishes.

I love fall and winter.. the air feels clean and crisp and this time of year (Sept-Dec 31) is my favourite time of all.
Today I noticed at work that summer is over and kids are back in school.. we got slammed for a Tuesday. We weren't really understaffed, we were just staffed for a summer Tuesday instead of a fall/winter Tuesday. |

This summer we've been blown about, scorched and drowned...mostly drowned. Autumn bodes well...We've been promised an Indian summer. Might see my plum tomatoes ripening after all

I love fall but could do without winter, it makes my arthritis hurt worse than during warmer weather. Trees are starting to change here and crops are starting to dry before harvest. I picked an acorn squash the other night for supper so fall is here! |

We had plenty of heat here, including a 3-day stretch with highs over 100. Highest was 107. I'm glad that's over. |

Sigh.... | We did have a mild summer which also makes me wonder, what is fall and winter going to bring. I think we'll have a hot fall and brutal winter. I love the cold weather. Chicago winters are hard to get through but they make us tougher  | |
