Default Daughter dislocated her knee on Thursday.

Was jumping over a railing at school and slemmed her left knee into it and fell to the ground.
She saw that her knee was out of place and popped it back in, then went on with her day.
It popped out 2 more times before she let anyone know.
It's braced up and we'll get x rays Monday and go from there.
Needless to say I'm spoiling her the best I can.

Not fun and it is going to be a lifelong problem. If the docs recommend physical therapy make sure she follows it or she may lose some range of motion and function.

JJ when I was younger I fell down a flight of stairs and landed on my left kneecap fracturing it. Doing something like that deforms the soft lining of the kneecap. If your daughter gets any phyiscal therapy exercises, make sure she does them. Strengthening the muscles and ligaments that surround and attach to the kneecap will help lessen any future pain. I did not do my therapy exercises back then and I know now that 20 years later often times it hurts a lot going up and down stairs.
Tell her good luck with it!

No doubt.
She already had plans to go to the mall with a friend after school to pick out costumes, and I'm sure that played into her decision to keep quiet.
The 2 times it popped out after the initial time happened while walking around the mall.
I still can't get over that she popped it back in herself.
I don't think I was that tough at 14.
Heck, I don't think I'm that tough now.

Thanks for all of the well wishes.

Jim

X rays looked good, no fractures, no surgery needed.
The Doc said if she can rehab on her own she should be able to avoid physical therapy.
Right now she has to flex her thigh muscle to strengthen it, and we'll go from there.

Pretty relieved.

I have had a few knee injuries due to sports. Just make sure she rests, knee injuries have a funny habit of reoccurring over the course of your life, and can be extremely painful. Hopefully she gets better.

That's good news Jim. It's a worry when they get injured - why would anyone become a parent?

My teen son has recently had exploratory knee surgery, and has been warned off road running until he does a lot of strengthening work to support the knee. Basically he was overtraining with no weight work (hockey, cricket, soccer, running - you name it). So now he's at the gym 2 sessions a week, still playing hockey and soccer, but that's it. He went overboard, the competetive nutter hehe

Seems to be on the improve...best luck with your daughter.
Cheers - Daina
