Default Spanish red and olives

I need a good suggestion for a rioja and olive pairing. I really like the idea of eating a spicy olive and having a good spanish red to stand up to it.. it's one of my favorite sensations.

Does anyone have a favourite pairing? Perhaps some new vegetable bites other than olives to go with it? Much appreciated.

I have access to a Whole Foods olive bar, but that's it. Good olives there..

Not sure I would recommend a Rioja with olives. Although as a component of a dish, OK. A amontillado with manchego and membrillo will give you a more refined marriage. Fine Sherry is undervalued in it's ability to solve amuse problems. imo

My mouth is watering, I'll pick that up this weekend. I'll have to look back at my wine notes and look up sherry, I haven't really explored it. I remember having a really good cream sherry in the kitchen before a tapas demnastration. I couldn't put it down! (and I was the one demnstrating!)

ps. Your signature makes me smile! Now that song will be in my head all day long (and that's ok).

Just tried membrillo for the first time at whole foods.. very good. My boyfriend didn't care for it, though. Found a sherry I'm gonna pick up next time when I have the means. Thanks!
