Thumbs up

Great value to be had with south african wines. My favorite wines come from the cape of good hope. paarl and Stellenbosh produce some really nice wines.chenin blanc is the most planted grape.(crouchon) or cape reisling is a winner as is cinsaut...Africas version of "hermitage"...
I have to put my thinking cap on to try to remember more about the wines.
I will post more on cape wines when my head clears up...

What a coincidence that this topic would pop up now. I've never paid much attention to South African wines but my wife and I were at an Inn in upstate Vermont over the weekend and they had a KMR (? - I didn't write down the three initials, but it was something like that) Pinotage by the glass that I decided to try. Absolutely outstanding - so now I'm off on a whole new area of wine tasting/testing.

Does anyone know this wine or winery? I haven't had a chance to look up Pinotage in any of my wine references, but I assume it's a varietal of some kind. Tastes something like a Syrah, definitely not a Pinot Noir-type of wine in spite of the name.

Good to hear from CC and Dick

KWV - Cape Wine Cooperatives,
they have and increble set-up in Paarl.
Keep an eye open for their Catherdral Range,
their Roberts Creek is a blend but valu-4- money, C$9 in Ottawa.

Pinotage is the unique Cape wine,
red, and heavy bodied, great with Winter foods.

btw KWV also have an interesting range of brandies, including their 20 year and XO

The following may be of interest
Cape Town and it's Table Mountain,
the Paarl, Stellenbosch et al wine routes. Following links are useful and interesting:
