Wink Virginia Wine Country ??????

For anyone who may be interested in Va. wines.
Va. is becoming a major producer of fine vintages. Wine production is becoming a big business here. Grapes for wines were cultivated in Va.,as early as 1609. Unfortunately, it took more than two centuries for Va. to produce palatable wines. In this part of the state, we have many vineyards. Vinifera varieties dominate here. Whatever your taste may be, you will find a favorite wine made here in Va. My favorite wine is a Reisling from the Jefferson Vineyards, which was established by Thomas Jefferson next to his Monticello home. Want more info? Contact Va Wine Mktng. Office. PO BOX 1163 Richmond, Va. 23218.1-800-VA VINES.

Jeni..thanks for posting..I had asked you in another area about your recommendations. We'll be headed to Colonial Williamsburg in the fall (but we'll have almost two weeks of site seeing) so I was anxious to make note of some wines to try. I wonder if this thread should be in the Wine section...

SeattleDeb,
You will have a wonderful time! The Williamsburg Winery is the biggest in Va. They have good food at the Archer Tavern, and try the Plantation Blush Wine.

Thanks Jeni...hopefully you won't mind if I ask some more food and wine questions closer to the trip. Archer Tavern? Have you dined at Trellis by William and Mary...I think that chef wrote some chocolate cookbooks, Death By Chocolate? We were there a few years ago and ate at a lot of the "authentic" taverns right in Colonial W. We arrived to the park the first night, and I didn't realize how authentic they would be (i.e. no lights, etc...) and hubby had made reservations at one of the pubs. Was kind of fun trying to find places in the dark...!
